The Walls Of My Life.

Admission Essay For BBA Programme Mantissa College.
The Walls Of My Life.
By Prince Jebat

My primary teacher once autographed “There is no end for learning”. I always keep that word in my mind until now. After 20 years, when I met him, im surprised when he said he is still studying after pension.he is attending  Arabic classes. For a Chinese man, taking Arabic classes is not that easy. But he managed to empower himself with Arabic. It makes me realize that we can do anything that we want. We are what we want to be.
Born in a well educated family gives me a kind of pressure to succeed in studies. My late father himself is a diploma holder. All of my three sisters are also have higher level studies. After my SPM I registered for Diploma in Science Computer at Entrepreneurs Development Institute with blazing passion. After a while I involved in accident which forced me to stop my studies. My  failure have blown me down. The accident changed my lifestyle. I t doesnt only broke my leg but my hope and  my  determination to succeed. Im stuck in a dead end in front of the wall of problems. Then  I manage to learn handphone and computer repairing techniques on my own and opened a handphone shop  for about 4 years before  I stop my business to join Department Of Statistics Malaysia.
Being a SPM holder, I can only earn RM 1200 per month  to support my family. My 3 kids expenses alone takes around RM700+ per month. My superior keep telling me that i have the qualities of a leader, but I don't have educational qualification to get a higher post. My superior keep giving me encouragement to continue studies and that encouragement made me to think about my studies. I realized that with SPM only Im nobody in capturing Vision 2020. I know that I must make something. I have to generate transformation to become a competent person.  I need a higher education to survive in this challenging world. Now at the age of 33 years, I want to continue my studies at Mantissa College in BBA.
Some could ask, can you study after leaving school for 20 years? My answer is simple. If there is a hope, there is a way. And we will keep going. In Alice in the wonderland movie, Alice's father says the only way to achieve imposible is to believe it is posible.
Other will ask how about problems during studies? Let me answer the question by telling you a story. Once there was a philosopher, Dr Peale, walking down a street when he saw his friend, George, a wealthy man. George had a scowl on his face. Dr Peale asked what happened. George answered"problems. Im fed up with these problems. If you could get rid of all my problems, id contribute $5000 to your charity."
"I just might take your offer. Just yesterday I was at a place where thousands of peoples reside and  not single of them has problems" responded Dr Peale
George's face brightened and asked aegerly "when we can leave?"
"Tomorrow" said Dr Peale.
"Where we are going" asked George excitedly.
"Were going to Woodland Cemetery, because the only people I know without problems are the dead' responded Dr Peale.

Dr Peale's humorous anecdote tells us that everyone has problems. Problems are like walls. Some of us encounter small wall that we can jump over, but some encounters mountain tall walls.  We could not climb it, so we have to find other way around. If you cant climb your wall, build a door through that wall. If climbing walls is about overcoming your problems, then building door is solving your problems in creative ways. If the door you built forced to close, never give up, just build another door. For every door closed, there is another opens. We have to turn stumbling blocks into stepping stone to  climb the wall. If we fail, build a door to the other side of the wall.

I've learned how to build a door through my wall. I've learned that to achieve success is getting up one more time at every fall. I've learned that failure doesnt means we failed but  we found another way to success. A word from a book titled Dare To Fail, 'Dont judge a person who tried and failed, but judge a person who failed to try'. The truth is most successful people encounter more walls in their lives than average person but successful people just find a way to climb their walls or build the door through them.
Working at Department Of Statistics Malaysia as a part time Statistics Assistant  gave me a bunch of experience. My responsibility is to help Statistics Officer to collect various statistics data in various sectors. I  did Housing And People Census in 2010 which took me from house to house to meet household to collect population data. Now  Im doing Economical Census 2011. We had to visit all kind of businesses and companies and collect economical data such as profit and lost account of their organization which gave me an opportunity to learn accounting which  I never managed to master when Im in school. Since then I realized how Business Administrative is important in everyday life. Last time when I have handphone shop, I managed to learn repairing techniques but Im lack of business admin knowledge.
By applying for BBA, I have stepped to a better career opportunities such as administrative manager, management consultant, finance manager and even I can aplly for a higher post at Department Of  Statistics  as a Statistics Officer for economics department which need need BBA. After meeting Cindy from Mantissa College, i started to dream a better future. Im convinced that at Mantissa College I can fulfill my dream. Wright brothers made planes by dreaming of flying. Alexander Graham Bell invented telephone by dreaming speak to the person who is far far away.  It is good to dream our success. Dream is the first step to make our move toward success as another wisdom says 'Every great ideas and invention comes from a crazy dreams'.
Today I feel like a new person. Ive already overcome and solve my failure. Ive also have identified the way of success.
I never want to give message of failure and defeat to my kids but now I can give them a message of triumph.
I , too, can actualize my potential!
I, too, can seize a life of abundance!
I, too, can climb the wall and build the door of success!
And I can tell my kids one day "I didnt Quit but I Triumphed!"
"Quit, don't quit? Noodles, don't noodles? You are too concerned about what was and what will be. There is a saying: yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That is why it is called the "present."  said Master Oogway of Kung Fu Panda Movie told  Po the Panda when the panda said that he wants to quit and go back to making noodles.
Today  when I  have BBA opportunities from Mantissa College, it is a gift to change my future.
I would like to  close with a poem called I Will Do More.

I will do more than belong,
I will participate.
I will do  more than care,
I will help.
I will do  more than believe,
I will be kind.
I will do  more than dream,
I will work.
I will do  more than teach,
I will inspire.
I will do  more than earn,
I will enrich.
I will do  more than give,
I will serve.
I will do  more than live,
I will grow.
I will do  more than friendly,
I will be a friend.
I will do  more than citizen,
I will patriot.
I will do  more than try,
I will triumph.
